2007-11-23 - #1
Last year, Tarja’s Christmas related album “Henkäys Ikuisuudesta” remained in the # 2 position of the Finnish album chart for some weeks. It couldn’t take the number # 1 spot due to the successful and respected local artist Vesa-Matti Loiri.
This November 2007 “My Winter Storm” gave to Tarja the first # 1 chart album entry as a solo artist in home land Finland.
Congratulations Tarja and Universal Music. Many thanks once again to Tarja’s winter storm for making it possible.

2007-11-20 - “The voice of Finland“ accompanies final boxing match of Regina Halmich.
You hardly can imagine an anthem that fits better to a final boxing match than “I Walk Alone”. So it surely isn´t a coincidence that Regina Halmich invited the Finnish soprano Tarja to sing exactly this song during her final boxing match in Karlsruhe on November 30.
In front of a cinematic orchestral backdrop and accompanied by scorching guitars, Tarja will unleash the magical power of her voice.
“This song was inspired by a musical motif in “Requiem” from Wolfang Amadeus Mozart”, Tarja reveals. “With this basis in the classical tradition, “I Walk Alone” suits my personality and identity as a singer perfectly.”
Tarja is going to present her first single for the first time in German TV, exclusively in front of millions of spectators on ZDF during the final boxing match of Regina Halmich on November 30 in Karlsruhe.
For Tarja it is a special honour to musically accompany this great event in Karlsruhe, where she finished her studies in classical singing at the local Music University. Regina´s opponent will be the International Bantamweight Champion (one weight category above Regina, the undisputed World Flyweight Champion), Hagar Shoulefeld Finer from Israel. For Regina this opponent is exactly the challenge she wanted to have for her final match. Also the musical supporting programme is very important for Halmich, who loves rock music. For already a long time she has been maintaining good relationships in the music scene. For years already the rock singer Doro Pesch is responsible for Halmich´s musical intro as she will be also this time. After the entry of the two antagonists, Tarja will provide the perfect soundtrack to the pictures of Regina Halmich´s unprecedented career.
My Winter Storm was released Wednesday 14th in Finland reaching Gold status the same day. Congratulations Tarja for the promising beginning Thanks for the fans that made it possible!
Today and next week most of the other territories will follow with the releases.
Due to a minor delay in the production, the Australian release date of Tarja’s solo album “My Winter Storm” had to be pushed back for one week. The album will hit Australian stores now on November 24th.

2007-08-08 - Universal Music sent the first official press release for Tarja’s “My Winter Storm” album.
TARJA TURUNEN SIGNING DEAL WITH UNIVERSAL MUSIC
TARJA TURUNEN, the exceptionally gifted singer, has signed to Universal Music on an exclusive worldwide basis. Tarja rose to prominence as the voice and the face of Finnish outfit Nightwish, with her unique tones and striking stage presence having played a key role in the international success of that band. Tarja is now ideally placed to take her solo career to a whole new level, both in terms of musical ambition and personal profile; to this end, the 29-year-old – originally from the Finnish town of Kitee – is currently working on her first recordings as a solo artist, with a studio deep in the Irish countryside the initial home for these sessions – a studio that has already played host to the likes of R.E.M., Michael Jackson and the Manic Street Preachers.
Tarja’s debut single, ‘I Walk Alone’, is being lined up for a mid of October release, with the full album, ‘My Winter Storm’, due to follow on November 9th. Both the single and the album are being produced by Daniel Presley (Faith No More, Jewel, The Breeders), who has been joined in the studio by a truly stellar line-up of musicians: Doug Wimbish on bass (Living Colour, Annie Lennox, Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Madonna, Rolling Stones), Alex Scholpp on electric guitars (Farmer Boys) and Earl Harvin on drums (Seal, Pet Shop Boys, Air), a player personally selected by Tarja after she saw him stealing the show at a Seal concert. Keyboards & programming, meanwhile, are being provided by Torsten Stenzel, whose previous credits include Nelly Furtado, Moby, Tina Turner, Vanessa Mae and more.
Throughout her career, Tarja has managed to achieve that most difficult of tasks – seamlessly joining worlds that, at first glance, would appear to be poles apart; in this case, Metal & Opera. Could these two ever really stand shoulder to shoulder without one diluting the other? Well… not only did the soprano singer drive herself to achieve the perfect balance, with hits such as ‘Nemo’ storming the international charts, but in doing so she helped to create a style that is currently exerting a huge influence on the Rock & Metal scene.
Released in 2004, the highly-acclaimed ‘Once’ was Tarja’s last studio outing – an album that rose to the top of the charts around the world, from Mexico through to the European Billboard lists; the record picked up platinum awards in Germany & Finland, and turned gold right across Scandinavia, as well as in Brazil, Austria, Switzerland, Greece & Hungary.
I terms of vocal training, Tarja started this (ongoing) journey at the age of six, and in due course she was accepted at the world famous Music University, the Sibelius Academy in Kuopio. It was here that she developed what has genuinely become a signature style, achieving an emotional connection with the listener that transcends language, location or musical type. Whether as a soloist with the Finnish National Opera, performing a concert in a church, or holding the gaze of 20,000 rock fans in arenas around the world, Tarja Turunen is a singing phenomenon. As simple as that.
And now, of course, she’s pursuing a solo career, taking a musical path that (in terms of direction, variety & scope) should keep her existing fanbase happy, whilst at the same time reaching out to a wider audience. Anyone who likes their music dark of spirit, dramatic in intent and shot through with giant slabs of melody will find plenty to interest them here, and as always, Tarja is pulling out all of the stops…
“Some of these new songs are already sending shivers down my spine; they’re awakening me to a new way of living, a way that I’ve never experienced before..”.
Tarja Turunen has always had the voice of an angel; now she’s about to (fully) spread her wings.
2007-06-11 - Today the Blog for Tarja’s new album is open!
2007-04-25 - Tarja will visit the stand of Finland, Sweden and Norway at the International Book Fair in Buenos Ai
Invited by the Finnish Embassy in Argentina, Tarja will visit the stand of the Nordic countries (stand number 2315, yellow hall) at the International Book Fair in La Rural, Buenos Aires, on May 3rd, 2007, at 20:00 o’clock.
2007-04-16 - Tarja’s album working title revealed!
Hello People!
With renewed energy after some holidays I am 100 % working in the new album at the moment.
I have now a very difficult task ahead: to decide only a bunch of songs that will make it to the final album. With so many excellent songs I have to choose from, it won’t be so easy. Maybe we should consider doing a double album … J
As I already started to do last year, I am now making more demos to see how I feel with the songs and how the songs fit with me. Some of them make me chills already even though we are still very far away from the sound we are looking for the album!
In May I will start recording some definitive vocals. All the people involved, producers, musicians, programmers and choir and orchestra arrangers are very excited and overloaded with things to do!
We are all working without hurry, but at the same time, without breaks. Is amazing to see how the songs are coming alive in ways that I haven’t experienced before.
I wanted to contact you now to inform the working title of my album.
I hope you’ll find it nice and that it will help you to generate some images in your minds of what will come.
It has a very deep and dear meaning to me that I will explain to you all a bit later. As well, as soon as I have more information to give to you, I’ll write it here in my web page.
The album will be called:
My Winter Storm.
With Love,
Tarja
2007-04-11 - Schiller Gold!
We would like to congratulate Christopher von Deylen and SCHILLER for the Gold Record Award they achieved in Germany for the album Tag und Nacht where Tarja guests in the song “Tired of being alone”.
Congratulations and thank you for the Gold Award!
2007-03-09 - Tarja recorded the vocal tracks for the song “In the Picture”.
Last January 24th, Tarja recorded the vocal tracks for the song “In the Picture” to be included in a compilation CD to celebrate Nuclear Blast Records" 20th anniversary, entitled "Into the Light". RAGE guitarist Victor Smolski composed, recorded and produced the song as well as another 9 songs for various metal artists that are part of the record company’s history.
Victor said: "This last mid-tempo song of the CD develops itself from the ballad-like beginning to a catchy chorus, which is a good example for how harmonic a powerful metal song can fit to Tarja"s classical voice. The lyrics deal with the subject, if there were any other existences, and even if we faced directly with the facts, would we believe our eyes?"
For all information about other artists that will take part as guests, the album and release dates, please check http://www.nuclearblast.de/
2007-03-07 - Tarja has been nominated for the Emma award (Finnish equivalent to the Grammy).
Tarja has been nominated for the Emma award (Finnish equivalent to the Grammy) as best female soloist of the year 2006, together with Paula Koivuniemi, Emma Salokoski and Katri Ylander. Next March 10th the winner will be announced in a special event denominated Emma-Gaala that will be broadcasted in Finland in channel TV2 at 19.50, and in YleX at 19:00.
The nomination is the result of her performance in the Christmas Album Henkäys Ikuisuudesta. We are anxiously waiting to hear the result of this first nomination for Tarja as a solo artist. Nevertheless the honour of the nomination is already an invaluable prize.
2007-01-04 - Year 2006 nicely surprised Tarja until the very end.
Last 30.12.2006 more than 7600 readers of Finnish newspaper Iltalehti voted in different categories for the personalities of the year 2006 in Finland.
They chose Tarja as the best Finnish female singer. Thanks a lot to the people that voted!
Tarja’s Christmas Concert tour is now over. Beside the people that assisted to the shows in Finland and Russia, YLE TV2 Channel in Finland broadcasted the show from 12.12.2006 in Lahti. The estimated audience exceeded 450.000 viewers with a 30% of the share (every third TV set was on to watch the concert).
The album Henkäys Ikuisuudesta was voted by radio music journalists in Finland as the Christmas album of the year.
Tarja is at the moment having a deserved break to concentrate in her forthcoming album that is already in the process. To close the wonderful chapter of the Christmas album and tour, we leave you here with two new photos: Tarja with the Platinum award for sales in Finland of Henkäys Ikuisuudesta and Tarja with the flowers that fans from Moscow gave her in the last concert of the tour.
Thanks for the Moscow and Saint Petersburg fans for the flowers and for all the rest of the fans, thanks once again for the incredible amount of gifts, emails and letters received and the rewarding feeling of the applauses, smiles and tears.
A great 2006 is over and an even better 2007 is in front of us.
